A Canadian forestry company will seek court approval Thursday to sell paper, lumber and pulp mills it owns in New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick and Quebec.
Fraser Papers filed for bankruptcy protection in both Canada and the United States in June and announced last week that it planned to focus on specialty papers and sell off its other assets.
According to the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper, the Toronto-headquartered company proposes will be in court Thursday to get permission for a two-part restructuring plan calling for first selling mills in Edmundston, N.B., and Madawaska, Me., and then selling off other assets, including the paper mill in Gorham, N.H., two lumber mills in Maine and a pulp mill in Quebec.
The Gorham facility, which now employs 240 people, and a pulp mill in Berlin were once Coos County's largest employer. The pulp mill closed in 2006.
