Canada has made no progress towards protecting the Bay of Fundy since CPAWS identified it and eleven other marine sites as priorities for protection by the end of 2012. Roberta Clowater, CPAWS NB Executive Director, said, "The lack of protection in the Bay of Fundy stands in stark contrast to the incredible ecological richness of the Bay, and its international importance for humpback, fin and endangered North Atlantic right whales, migratory shorebirds and seabirds. We need a National Marine Conservation Area that includes strong conservation measures to conserve these values into the future.” http://www.cpaws.org/uploads/pubs/oceans/OceanProgressReport_May142012_Final.pdf

CPAWS New Brunswick is very saddened by the sudden passing of Florian Levesque. Florian worked on communications for our Friends of Restigouche project in northern NB a few years ago. He was funny, dedicated, and insightful, and helped us spur on lots of local Restigouche activities in support of Restigouche river and forest conservation. We at CPAWS NB will miss his joyful spirit - a real loss to the whole New Brunswick community. Sincere condolences to his wife Alexandra, son, Jeremy, and all his friends and family.
