Stormwater Management Workshop
You are invited to attend ‘Tools for Managing Stormwater and Wastewater” workshop. The one-day, interactive workshop will take place on Thursday, February 23rd at Rockwood Park Interpretive Centre, Saint John, NB.
The workshop will be hosted by the Ecology Action Centre (www.ecologyaction.ca), the Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership (BOFEP) (www.bofep.org) and Insurance Bureau of Canada (www.ibc.ca). The workshops are designed to increase participants’ capacity to identify and implement stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce infrastructure damage, flooding, and pollutants entering marine and freshwater systems. The interactive presentations will be given by local and national experts with extensive knowledge and practical experience with stormwater management and wastewater treatment.
This one day workshop will provide information, resources and opportunities to discuss topics such as:
- Impacts of stormwater including flooding, infrastructure damage and reduction of water quality
- Stormwater policies, regulations and initiatives in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Canada
- Innovative stormwater BMPs for existing and new developments
- Site assessment methodology to guide on-site BMP implementation
- Emerging water quality issues including managing pharmaceuticals in the natural environment
Changes in the amounts and intensity of precipitation associated with climate change along with problems associated with aging infrastructure and an ever expanding area of impervious surfaces (roads, roofs, parking lots) in most municipalities make managing stormwater a critical issue. This workshop will help planners, municipal officials and other interested stakeholders select and implement tools to reduce stormwater runoff and infrastructure damage through a range of innovative, cost-effective Best Management Practices. It will also begin to address water quality issues associated with pharmaceuticals and other contaminants in marine waters.
Register online at www.ecologyaction.ca/fundystormwater by February 3 if you are interested in this opportunity as enrollment is limited. There is a $20 registration fee for participants, which includes snacks, lunch, and resource materials.
